Dear Oak Meadows tenants and families,
Important update: As of today we now have 12 confirmed positive COVID cases at Oak Meadows. 8 tenants in memory care and 4 staff, which includes one new staff person who tested positive this week. We have had 3 tenants pass away in MC. All of memory care is in quarantine at this time. The positive staff are all recovering at home. We have some tenants with mild symptoms and some with more serious symptoms. All Pines tenants will be getting tested again on Monday. Staff testing is done regularly.
At this time we will continue to allow ONLY Essential Caregivers into the Ponds and Pines, and of course this is only as long as we have no positive cases in those areas. No unnecessary visits please. Absolutely NO visitors will be allowed in to memory care. We ask that Essential Caregivers try to limit how much you need to come in during this surge of positive cases in our State. Please remember that NO ONE is allowed to come in to our building without prior authorization and getting checked at the receptionist desk. Even asymptomatic people can spread this virus. Our protocol is for your safety, the safety of our staff and for the safety of visitors.
Our staff are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe. Our nursing staff are especially under tremendous stress right now as they care for those who are sick. Dining staff are also working hard to make sure you have good food delivered to your apartment 3 times a day. Please remember all of them in your prayers. And do your part by wearing your mask, social distancing and washing your hands frequently.
I am begging all of you to please take this virus seriously. This week the State released guidelines encouraging people who live in senior communities to avoid all non-essential outings. This includes holiday gatherings. We cannot force people to not leave the campus but I am asking that you please make informed careful decisions before choosing to go to a large gathering or in to someone’s home. The virus spread is very rampant in those type of settings, unless it is an outdoor gathering.
We are very hopeful on the news of the vaccine becoming available in the next month or so. Seniors will be high on the list for getting the vaccine first. But in the meantime let’s do our part to keep the virus from spreading.
